Speaker Profile
Steve Huxham
The Recruitment Society |
Steve Huxham is by career a senior Recruitment professional and HR & Resourcing Advisor with nearly twenty-three years experience, first becoming a Director of a leading accountancy and City recruitment practice at the age of 29. As well as subsequently becoming MD of that business, he also went on to become Marketing Director within a major quoted recruitment business and in the mid 1990s helped found new businesses for two well-known Search & Selection brand names.
In 1997, he established his own practice, HUX Search, Selection & Resourcing Consulting, where he is extremely thankful to still be able to operate “hands on” with clients both on retained Search and/or Selection projects or Consulting on all types of Resourcing problems and issues. In his considerable time as a Recruiter there are now very few jobs and roles by either market sector or job discipline that Steve has not seen and handled successfully. However the one call that Steve is still waiting for from a client or contact, even after all this time, is the one that starts: “Steve, we’ve got a really easy assignment we’d like you to deal with”!
Steve is also regularly invited to comment on topical sector issues by both trade, national and broadcast media. He is Chairman of The Recruitment Society, a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (and sits on the Steering Committee of the CIPD Recruitment Forum), a Fellow of the Recruitment & Employment Confederation, a Fellow of the Institute of Sales & Marketing Management, a Member of the Institute of Directors, a Member of the Institute of Association Management, an Associate Member of the Fleet Air Arm Officer’s Association, and attends Parliamentary meetings as a Senate Member for the Genesis Initiative (umbrella and co-ordinating body for SME organisations.) He was honoured by being granted the Freedom of the City of London in 1996, and is a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of Pattenmakers.
As well as media appearances, Steve’s Conference and other credits include speaking at the annual Executive Recruitment Exhibition & Conference (EREC), being an opening keynote speaker at the Building Societies Association annual Conference, Chairing the annual CIPD Recruitment & Retention Conference at Olympia, speaking at the Communication Directors’ annual Forum on career management, and Chairing the joint CIPD/AGR Graduate Recruitment Forum. He was also invited to present evidence to a House of Commons All Party Committee and his comments figured prominently in the subsequent Inquiry Report. Steve was also formerly a founder of and Spokesman for The Investors' Association; the financial consumers’ lobby group. Most recently, he has also become a Partner with VetA – the provider of a range of Advisory Services to Trade & Membership Associations. Finally, he conducts individual Career Counselling Coaching to a wide range of senior contacts, and also acts as an External Adviser on HR and business strategy issues to a number of SMEs. These are both within the recruitment sector and more widely, and during the course of next year Steve will be adding no more than two further Advisory or NED roles to his portfolio. He was a Chair of the Judges for the Recruiter 2008 Awards For Excellence, and will be reprising that role for the 2009 Awards.
