Norman Rose (Director-General of BSA) has a background in the legal profession specialising in competition and regulatory law, first in local government, then as Deputy Secretary of the Law Society of Scotland. Subsequent positions have included Deputy Director of the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) and Associate International General Counsel of Electronic Data Systems (EDS) with whom he worked extensively in Washington D.C. and Brussels.
As D-G of BSA, Norman has a high profile role in policy formation for the UK and in Europe, working closely with politicians and officials in London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Brussels to ensure that the concerns of the business services sector are well understood and addressed.
Norman represents the industry on a number of departmental groups in the Defence and Health sectors and was the first industry co-chair of MoD’s Broadening Smart Acquisition Group. He was the first Chair of NHSU’s Private Sector Employers’ Group and is the only private sector representative on the new NHS Employers’ Organisation Assembly. He is also the Basic Skills Champion for Business Services and Deputy Chairman of the Council of Asset Skills.
Norman’s interest in global business issues is reflected in his work as the Chairman of SITPRO, the DTI-funded international trade facilitation body, and his activities as a Liveryman of the Worshipful Company of World Traders. He is also Chairman of the European Business Services Round Table and a member of the European Commission’s Forum for Business-Related Services.
